Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign opens Nov. 23

The Salvation Army service unit in Greene County will conduct this year’s Red Kettle campaign on Saturdays at two locations in Greene County for five weekends, starting Nov. 23.

Ninety percent of the money received in Greene County will be spent in Greene County to help families and individuals needing assistance with essential human needs. If you send money directly to the Salvation Army, there is no 90 percent retention for Greene County.

The amount raised in 2023 was nearly $7,000.  Last fiscal year the local Salvation Army unit helped many families or individuals with their utilities, transportation, and other needs. The goal for this year’s campaign of $7,500 would allow the local unit to serve Greene County residents with a similar budget.  Donations to the Kettle Campaign have fallen dramatically since the $8,934 received in 2017. It is hoped that Greene County can recognize the need and help reach the goal of $7,500 if not more.

The regional Salvation Army officials in Omaha have at times also assisted with needs beyond the funds raised in Greene County when there is a fire or other disaster in the region.

“Please consider helping your neighbors by giving to the Salvation Army during this holiday season” a spokesperson said.

In addition to filling the Red Kettles, donors may make deposits at Home State Bank any time of the year.

“Many thanks to all who support the work of the Salvation Army service unit in Greene County,” the spokesperson said.
